Jumper vs. Sweater: Same Thing, Different Expectations

"Jumper" and "sweater" describe the same garment, but the word you use signals something about how you think about it. Sweaters lean formal — they're what you wear to the office, under a blazer. Jumpers lean casual — they're Saturday morning, coffee in hand, no plans until noon. What separates a good everyday jumper from one that pills after a month is the yarn twist. Tighter-twisted yarn produces a denser surface that resists abrasion. Spending Wisely

The cashmere jumper market has a wide price range, and the correlation between price and quality isn't linear. Some direct-to-consumer brands sell excellent jumpers for a third of what department store brands charge for equivalent fiber quality, because you're not paying for retail overhead and marketing.

At the same time, the cheapest cashmere jumpers (under $50) are almost always made with short-staple fibers that pill aggressively. The sweet spot for value tends to fall in the $80-$150 range for pure cashmere, and $40-$80 for quality blends.
