Oversized vs. Just Too Big

There's a meaningful difference between a sweater designed to be oversized and a regular sweater bought two sizes up. Intentionally oversized knitwear has adjusted proportions — the shoulder seam drops to a specific point, the body width increases without the sleeves becoming comically long, and the hem falls at a flattering length rather than wherever the extra fabric lands.

The picks below are designed oversized. The shoulder drop, body width, and sleeve length are all calibrated for the intended silhouette. Sizing up from these will push you into "borrowed from someone much larger" territory.

Making Oversized Cashmere Work

Balance matters. An oversized top works best with something fitted on the bottom — slim jeans, tailored trousers, a pencil skirt. Pairing an oversized sweater with wide-leg pants can work, but it requires more thought about proportions and usually benefits from a front tuck or half-tuck to define the waist.

For petite frames, look for options that hit at mid-hip rather than mid-thigh. The shorter length maintains the oversized feel without overwhelming your proportions.
